Usage

By means of the range of systems specified below, no secret that is saved in the control unit in the form of an fault code should be undiscovered.

  • OBD memory with P0 and P1 codes
  • Manufacturer's memory: engine, ABS, airbag, gear box, RDC, air-conditioning, comfort and theft.

Communication in all cars runs first of all through the CARB plug (16-pole). The CARB plug is, for example, used in Volkswagen cars since 1995 and in Opel and Ford cars since 1996 and 1997 respectively. From the model year 2000, all manufacturers are obliged to use this communication standard. Older cars can of course also be read easily and safely through various adapters that are specific for individual manufacturers.

macs 40 allows one to first of all read the error memory of the control devices. In addition, all of the contents of error memories can be deleted after the repair. Another area of use includes the resetting of the service interval display and the incrementally spread coding of pressure sensors used upon the checking of tire pressures (RDC).

Your universal translator - confusions often occur in cars with OBD technology. Even though the OBD standard was established in 2000, up to now many testing devices only translate essential fault codes about exhaust emissions into an understandable text through P0 codes, by using a table which is independent of the make of car. Each car manufacturer also uses other extended information saved in P1 codes.

The regular device is also able to read and display such codes, but translation into understandable text is very rare. This is because the relevant information is protected by the manufacturers and can only be displayed through an original reading device.

The following fact however is also very important:
Even after OBD was established in Europe, all of the manufacturers still use their own, conventional error memories, the use of which is based on their own, non-standardized actuators. This means that each car speaks its own LANGUAGE, SOME OF THEM EVEN USE VARIOUS DIALECTS.
These systems are suitable exactly for those particular cars and thus represent the maximum depth of diagnostics.

The same as with all other Gutmann products, this is no real problem for macs 40. The Gutmann engineers decoded all of the texts for you and saved them into their testers in the form of a comprehensible text.
